Keeping your palm, wrist, and your middle, ring, and pinky fingers pressed firmly and entirely flat against the surface, try to lift only your index finger as high as possible and tap it rhythmically.
At first, you will feel a distinct pull in your middle finger, which desperately wants to lift up alongside it. The trick is to consciously force those lower three fingers to remain dead still and fully relaxed. Practicing this for just a few minutes a day rewires your neural pathways, teaching your brain that the index finger can operate completely independently of the rest of the hand.
